Name: Christine Flodin
Title: Account Manager
Where I’m from: Grand Rapids, MI
Where I went to school: Western Michigan University
What I do: For LEAD, I help clients identify their goals and take time to understand their audience to develop the appropriate marketing strategies.
Project: One that starts from the ground up. Market research, brand identity, marketing strategy, and message & tactic development.
Client: One who is focused on defining clear goals and expectations, with an “in this together” attitude.
Quote: You get what you get, you don’t throw a fit. (Just work harder.)
Pastime: I love food, tv, and being with my family. I love an ultra-lazy day the same as a day of hiking. With a glass of red wine or dark beer somewhere in there.
An Insight: Sellers used to own the purchase journey, with limited resources available to consumers for research. Now, the consumer is in control. This has led to an explosion of marketing technology, or “martech.” And an explosion of buzzwords like martech. This amount of choice and ongoing change can be overwhelming for businesses trying to navigate the right path to consumers. That’s where LEAD comes in!
Someone who has influenced my attitude and drive: My grandmothers. Endlessly selfless, hardworking, and kind. Never ones to complain or greet you without a smile.
Someone who has influenced my professional career: So many – I’ve been fortunate to work for some highly intelligent and empowering people. I also have a book: How Starbucks Saved My Life. It’s a good lesson in humility and managing people – and how important it is to remember that they are people.
An out-of-the-box solution: Blockbuster had the chance to buy Netflix for $50 million but turned them down, saying their market was too “niche.” Netflix is now worth $150 billion. Sometimes a solution is not out-of-the-box (as neither renting movies nor receiving mail were in 2000), it’s taking a step out of your own way to look from a new vantage point.
Did you know…
When I was ten: I wore glasses and played Euchre with my best friend at recess. I’ve since had LASIK (one of my top 10 best life decisions), but can still pull out a good stopper now and then.
I aspire to: Be an example of good work ethic, kindness, and patience for my kids. They keep me honest on that last one. Love those little buggers.
I’m a LEADer because…
Skills: I’ve been on both sides of the client-agency relationship, so I can relate to both client and agency teams. Clients can expect honesty, to have a voice, and to see change happen. I don’t easily accept ‘this is how we’ve always done it.’ Agency teams can expect an advocate, and someone who will dive into a whiteboarding session or a massive data file to uncover a new idea. I’ve also had some incredible mentors who taught me to show rationale and passion behind my ideas, and to think like the audience.
Attitude: Inquisitive, open-minded, results-driven, and fun.
