Coming Soon to a Social Platform Near You

At the beginning of the year, we sent Social Media Manager Morgan to a West Michigan Public Relations Society of America (WMPRSA) event to learn more about the digital and social trends for 2020.

If you don’t read anything else in this blog, please make sure to read this: 2020 is the year the digital space will demand privacy, regulations, and transparency, users and customers will demand authenticity, and brands will demand your attention with “thought leadership”. Those three areas are the largest, most overarching trends of social media in 2020, but if you want to get into the nitty-gritty of these trends, read on!

Pay-to-Play

Social media has been moving fast in this direction for a while now, but in 2019 we saw that take a hit to organic posts with reach at an all-time low. If social spend isn’t a part of your media budget for 2020, I’ll wait while you add it now.

Visualize It

We’ve told you before and we will tell you again, video content dominates. In fact by 2021, video is expected to make up 82% of internet traffic. Video views on Facebook hit 8 billion daily, plus videos receive 1,200% more shares than text and image posts combined. This an area of social media you should start captalizing on. Trust us.

Since we’re paying to play, don’t be afraid to turn your organic posts into mobile video ad spend – you won’t be alone: 72% of total digital ad spend is being spent on video ads.

Don’t worry about having a polished, TV-ready video for social. The reason videos perform so well on social platforms is because they are relatable. So, try out different kinds of videos and see what sticks!

Get Social

Even though we are moving toward pay-to-play, organic social content is extremely important! Make sure you are being social on your social: engaging with followers, creating conversations with brands, and contributing new ideas the organic way.

The social world is changing daily, that’s why hiring a team of experts like us at LEAD will help set you and your business up for success on whatever platform you are on. We’re not posting to just to post; we create smart strategies to help you reach your goals through social. Ready to get started? Reach out a LEADer today.
