Meet Lauren Brandt – LEAD Marketing Graphic Designer

Tell me about yourself.

I’m Lauren Brandt. I’m a graphic designer, illustrator, and North Idaho College graduate. At the end of 2017, I moved across the country from the Pacific Northwest to Michigan! I’ve worked in various design roles and received awards for my work.

What’s your favorite thing about being a designer?

The actual design process and problem-solving. Each new project is a new challenge to overcome and with it comes an endless list of possibilities. That can be overwhelming, but it also gives me creative freedom to test which idea works best and why. When I start a project, I have a general picture of what I want, but as I’m working, I’ll get inspiration for new ideas. I love that creativity keeps flowing as I work, allowing me to experiment and refine the final product.

What do you like to do outside of the office?

In general, anything creative or artistic. Illustration is my passion. I love to discover new artists and check out art and design. I also love cooking and baking. I’ve been into allergy-friendly cooking for a while, and I like to see what tasty things I can whip up. Other activities I like include playing video games and traditional board games, exploring new cities, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with friends. I adore reading fairy tales and lore. I even collect different editions of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

“Take it 15 minutes at a time.” A professor of mine gave me that advice when I was struggling with a big project. When I get stuck on something, I focus on putting in 15 minutes, no distractions. It’s amazing how much progress can come from breaking down large projects into small chunks.
