Meet Morgan Shaffer – LEAD Marketing Social Media Manager
Name? School? Major/Minor?
Hey! I’m Morgan Shaffer, a Grand Valley State University graduate. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies in April 2019. I minored in Advertising and Public Relations and was a member as well as part of the executive board for the Public Relations Student Society of America during my time at GVSU.
What’s your favorite thing about being a social media manager?
I enjoy being the voice behind a brand and interacting with their audience. There is so much to learn from what their followers like and engage with that I am able to share with the rest of our team.
What do you like to do outside of the office?
I have a slight succulent obsession, and you can usually find me planting my latest addition to my collection on the weekend. I also walk and watch dogs for my clients on Rover and family friends, I can’t deny a furry dog with a sweet face!
I have a terribly guilty pleasure of reality TV and will happily discuss the drama of the Real Housewives franchise with you. I also volunteer with local mental health organization i understand regularly and would love to see you at one of their free, monthly events!
What is something others find interesting about you?
I have two different colored eyes, but not from birth! When I was 18 months old, I had surgery on my left eye to remove a cataract. After the surgery, I had two different colored eyes: one green and one blue. The surgeons are still unsure of what happened during the surgery to cause the color change but they believe they bumped a nerve. Stop by the office sometime to see for yourself!
What are the values that drive you?
Efficiency, passion, reliability, positivity, and integrity.
Top three favorite podcasts/books?
I enjoy listening to the Create & Cultivate podcast “Work Party” which features successful women in short, 30-ish minute episodes. Subscribe and get ready to be inspired. If you’re not big into podcasts, just give the @workparty Instagram a follow for daily inspiration.
Remember how I said I liked reality TV? Yes, that includes the Bachelor franchise. So it really should come as no surprise that another favorite podcast of mine is by Bachelor/Bachelorette alum, Kaitlyn Bristowe. Her podcast “Off the Vine” shares stories of success, failure, and the really awkward scenarios we find ourselves in, all over a glass (or two) of wine.
I received the book “Public Enemies” by Bryan Burrough for Christmas and it has become one of my favorite books. This book combines my fascination with the FBI and America’s mobsters by sharing in-depth, comprehensive data, reporting, and events in chronological order of the 1933-34 crime wave.
